Workhouse to works; camps to housing: guided history and wellbeing walk

Take a tour of this area of Brandon and explore its rich and varied history on this guided walk.

See the old Town Street centre with parish church, old workhouse, site of almshouses and manor house, along with more recent developments including mid and early 20th century council housing and bungalows. On this guided walk, we will hear stories of the old brickworks, fur factory, sawmill and timber processing works, as well as the World War II army camps that played a big part in people’s life as Brandon grew and developed. We will also try to answer the question, why is Town Street called “Tip” by many locals?

At the end of the walk, there is also the option to stay and chat and enjoy free tea and coffee in the Leisure & Health Hub café.

This route has been specially created for Brandon's Heritage Open Days and will be guided by Imogen Radford and OSBrecks volunteers jointly with Brandon Wellbeing Walks.

You can join Brandon Wellbeing Walks every Monday, as they run weekly routes starting and ending at the Leisure & Health Hub at 9.30am, with refreshments and a chance to chat afterwards.
