Brierley Hill Library: Maps, Memories and the Brier Rose
Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council, Brierley Hill Library, 122 High Street, Brierley HIll, West Midlands, DY5 3ET
Step inside Brierley Hill Library and uncover the people, places and events that have shaped the town.
Explore a fascinating local heritage display featuring historic photographs, books, records and ephemera from the library’s collection. Discover unusual objects and remarkable stories, from Brierley Hill’s industrial past and wartime experiences to the everyday lives and memories of local people.
A planned guest display from Little Orchard Workshop will offer another way to view the changing town through precision-carved wooden maps based on genuine historical records. Look closely at familiar streets, vanished landmarks and the industries that once surrounded them, including Brierley Hill High Street and Round Oak Steelworks.
From 10am until 12 noon, visitors of all ages can create a Brier Rose inspired by the flower depicted on the town’s historic coat of arms. Simpler crafts will be available for children, alongside a more detailed challenge for adults and experienced crafters.
Browse the library’s collections and share your own memories of Brierley Hill with staff and fellow visitors.
The library is open from 9am until 4pm. Regular library crafts will also take place from 2pm until 4pm. No booking is required.
This event forms part of the wider Brierley Hill Heritage Open Day programme and is ideally placed for continuing your journey to other venues across the town.
