Brimstage Heritage Orchard Apple, Pear & Plum Day

We'll guide you round a traditional orchard, to pick/taste heritage varieties of apple, pear and plum. We've recently planted more old varieties to show off. You can bring your own apples to crush in our press, for juice to take away.

You can swap advice with Pomona's collective of enthusiasts: trees; orchards; crafts; historic fruit varieties; conservation; planting; propagation; rewilding; hedges; foraging; beekeeping; drawing, painting and photographing trees; folklore; maypoles; music-making; tree care; orchard crafts, whittling, basket making and orchard frivolities, from dances round the trees to quaffing fresh apple juice.

Brimstage Hall is probably the second oldest building in Wirral. It has a history of orchards on site and the current orchard was planned to demonstrate traditional growing of apples, pears, plums, damsons and hedgerow fruits. We teach orchard skills to encourage other local and community orchards.

12th September: we give tours, tastes, talks to visitors & demonstrations throughout the day. We also challenge visitors to take some apples home and cook the best apple pies/ cakes/puddings/tarts/crumbles or strüdel. The idea is for visitors to bring back on the second Apple Day an example of what they made.
20th September - a Second Open Day, including helping us judge the International Brimstage Fruits and Apple Pies Championship . music, dancing and stories about heritage of apple growing

from Junction 4 of M53, take exit marked for "Heswall" and follow signs to Brimstage Hall Craft Centre /Maize Maze. Drive across the courtyard and park - entrance gate is next to the end of the main building

it is a working orchard with some uneven ground - difficult, but not impossible to push a manual wheelchair across, but we'll help if we can. Motorised trampers are regularly used at the orchard by volunteers. No dogs except for guide and assistance dogs on leads.
