St Paul's Church, Alverthorpe sits on top of a hill just outside Wakefield City Centre. Along with the Cathedral it's one of the most visible landmarks in Wakefield. For this heritage open day you can climb a steep and narrow spiral staircase to get to the carillon bells which you can ring. Weather permitting there is then a vertical ladder to climb to get to the top of the tower itself. It therefore requires a significant level of fitness to get to the top. Please consider your fitness before deciding to attempt it.

To celebrate 200 years of the church in Alverthorpe we are holding a history display of how the church has developed over the last 200 years together with recollections from members of the community.

There will be refreshments and crafts available for people to participate in and displays from the local school, church members and uniformed groups celebrating 200 years of worship in Alverthorpe
