Join in with a walking tour of Central Library to discover something of the history of the building, the Library Service and how things have changed across the years.

Tour of our Grade 2 listed Carnegie Library, historic anecdotes, brief history of public libraries in the UK, brief explanation of Andrew Carnegie, tour of windows and the innovations which make the library possible.

Bookings for this event will NOT open until Wednesday 20th August at 10am. Please do not try to book before then. This event is run by Blackpool Libraries, but the team at Showtown are managing bookings on their behalf. Book online through the Showtown website from Wednesday 20th August at 10am. Alternatively, phone bookings will be taken by staff at the Showtown History Centre during their midweek opening hours, which are: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10am-4pm.

Accessibility details

Lift access to the first floor if required. Partial wheelchair access is because we offer an “add on” to the tour, in the form of a sneak peek at the basement area, which has no lift or wheelchair accessibility. In the past, if some tour attendees can’t manage the stairs, their friends/relatives who can do them have video called them to give them a virtual tour. Please note, toilets are available for tour attendees only at present. Central’s public toilets are closed to the public at time of writing
