Charles Wicksteed was a hero to his community by creating Wicksteed Park and making play equipment for children all over the world to enjoy. This exhibition will cover the life of Charles Wicksteed and his engineering company.

Charles Wicksteed was a self-made man who built his fortune from the ground up, beginning with his own steam ploughing business. Owning and operating a steam plough meant knowing how to repair it when things went wrong, and this practical experience became Charles’s gateway into his lifelong passion for engineering. He went on to patent important machinery capable of sawing and bending metal bars, establishing himself as an innovative and successful engineer. Following the success of his engineering company, Charles Wicksteed & Co., he chose to give back to the community he called home by purchasing a large area of land that would become Wicksteed Park. Come along to our exhibition and discover the life and career of Charles Wicksteed, founder of Wicksteed Park.
