Chaseley, 80 years caring for adults with neurodisabilites on the Eastbourne seafront
Chaseley, South Cliff, Eastbourne, East Sussex, BN20 7JH
Chaseley is opening its doors to the public for a few hours during Heritage Week, offering a rare chance to step inside one of the area's most historic buildings. Built in 1893, the house was owned by Lady Lillian Michaelis, a South African heiress and philanthropist, who gave it to the Ministry of Defence when she and her family returned to South Africa at the outbreak of the Second World War.
Chaseley opened its doors as a charity in October 1946, its first residents were men who, in the immediate post-war years, had suffered injuries requiring both physical therapy and social care. Since then, it has become a long-term home for adults with diverse neurodisabilities, a mission it continues to this day.
Join us to explore the building's history and learn more about the work Chaseley does now.
