Clitheroe Oldest Sites - Castle, Wells and Church: A Guided Tour
Clitheroe Castle, Castlegate, Clitheroe, Lancashire, BB7 1AZ
This year's Clitheroe Town Wells Conservation Campaign (CTWCC) contribution to Heritage Open Days will link our three 'pre-Norman Well' sites to other key sites and conditions which have influenced the foundation and development of Clitheroe from its pre-Norman origins.
Through some of oldest building in the Parish - and certainly the oldest sites - we aim to show how this social religious, political and geological have interacted to form the town as we traverse its strategic Carboniferous Limestone ridge.
By this event we will demonstrate the significance of our three ancient Town Wells to the foundation and development of our town and why they need to better conserved, interpreted and - where possible - repurposed so they can continue to be seen and appreciated by future generations.
The Guided Tour will last approx 90 minutes. there will also be a 'Self Guided 'option. Visitors which to do so will be able to download a Guide from HOD and CTWCC Website nearer the day.

The Stroll across Clitheroe from Castle to Church via the towns wells requires a reasonable degree of mobility given the inclines and declines that exist here. This is particular the case at Clitheroe Castle.
All information about the Guided and Self Guided Tours will be accessible on CTWCC's Site by Noon on 7th July 2025.
