Set high above the Thames, Cliveden’s vibrant gardens and picturesque riverside views have been admired for centuries. The formal gardens and floral displays give way to secluded glades, tree-lined avenues, and an outstanding sculpture collection.

From the restored Long Garden to the wonderfully ornate mosaic-lined chapel, the fragrant Rose Garden, and the vast Parterre with its geometric beds and far-reaching views, there is something new to discover at Cliveden around every turn. For the family audience there is the Storybook Play Den, the giant maze or if you fancy a trip on the water you can find Boating at Cliveden beside the Boathouse on the river. Cliveden's current maze is based on one that was built for the 1st Viscount Astor in 1894 and has over 500 metres of paths winding amongst two-metre high hedges.

The splendid grounds reveal the stories of dukes, duchesses and royalty, but it was also the forgers, the gas yard workers, gardeners and maids who made Cliveden what it is today. A special focus will be placed on these hidden everyday histories in our tours and talks between 14th-18th September as part of Heritage Open Days.

A variety of different tours will be running throughout the week. History Walk and Garden Tour tickets are available from the Information Centre on a first come first served basis, or look out for the outdoor pop-up Daily Talks provided by our dedicated volunteers.

More information about what to expect from our walks, tours and talks can be found on our website: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/oxfordshire-buckinghamshire-berkshire/cliveden. Please email [email protected] or call 01628 605069 for any queries.
