Cranleigh Arts Centre originated in 1974 when the Cranleigh Players, the Arts and Crafts Society and the Camera Club wanted to find a dedicated space to use for their various community events. The building was originally the Village School built in 1848 and closed in 1975.In October 1978, a long term lease of the building was eventually signed by Waverley Council and celebrated with the first week-long Arts Festival and the official opening of the building as Cranleigh Arts Centre.
Cranleigh Art Centre is kept going by a diverse and committed group of volunteers, with as many paid staff as can be afforded, and it remains a valued cultural asset for the village.
