Darley Dale station bridging the past

By September we hope most of the work to reinstall the impressive two way footbridge will be complete. The station will be open from 10am to 4pm on 19th and 20th September for visitors to see progress on the footbridge. The footbridge was installed in 1911 and remained in use until the line closed in 1968. It had a double staircase one side was used by pedestrians, the other to cross from one platform to the other. It was bought by Derby City Council in the 1970s and stored at a museum at Butterley. It returned to Peak Rail in 2009 for restoration.
There will be an exhibition on the history of the station, staff who worked there and local people who used the station. It will also cover staff who worked at Matlock and Rowsley stations. Volunteers will be available both days to answer questions. There is no need to book, just turn up. We look forward to seeing you!

Directions:

Turn left off the A6 Matlock to Bakewell road in Darley Dale by Barrington's hotel onto Station Road. The car park is on the right after the station level crossing

There is some car parking available at the station and steam trains will be running both days. Tickets will be needed to travel on these.
