Deal Castle Architecture Tour

Victoria Road, Deal, Kent, CT14 7BA

  • 21 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Book on day

A special tour of the castle, by a member of the English Heritage team, which will focus on its architecture, why it is there and how it was built.

Deal Castle is the most elaborate of the revolutionary coastal artillery castles built by Henry VIII to defend against a threatened invasion by European Catholic powers, and it remains one of the most intact forts of its type.

The story of its design and construction is a fascinating tale of experts from the continent, the labour of 1,400 skilled men and a strike, which has resulted in an innovative and complex structure.
