Deal Museum
Deal Museum, 22 St. Georges Road, Deal, Kent, CT14 6BA
Upstairs, the Local History gallery is home to our stable of Hooden horses and our mascot – Rattie, a flute playing stuffed rat.
Downstairs, in the Maritime Gallery, you can plot Deal’s development from an Iron Age settlement, to its role as Henry VIII’s principal defence against Europe and then inspiration for Austen and Dickens. Two Sternboards from the 1850’s are a rare find as is the Saxon King, the last of the Deal Galleys. The role of the RNLI is also commemorated with stories from the lifeboat stations along our coast.
In the Stable Block is our permanent exhibition in recognition of the role the Royal Marines played in Deal’s history since the 1860’s and, new for this year, ‘Wrecked’ – one man’s finds from his diving and beachcombing adventures in Sandwich Bay.
Displays for this year only include a collection of pottery by Charles Vyse and the history of the Deal Theatre Project, a community based drama movement from the 1980’s.
The museum's archive will be open both Sundays.
