Dennis Potter grew up in Berry Hill and played with the band briefly, and has many ties including the band playing in several of his screen works, an exhibition of the collaboration has been created.

Berry Hill Band was formed in 1911 by the amalgamation of a temperance band and miners from Speedwell Colliery.

Berry Hill Band have had a long and rich history and is very much part of the community of Berry Hill. From the 1950's to the 1990's Berry Hill Band were a very successful prize winning band. Today, although they no longer contest, they provide music for many events in the local area and pride themselves on being a friendly and welcoming band.

Last year they performed at a London gallery as part of an exhibition about the playwright Dennis Potter with whom they have many ties.

Dennis Potter had a lifelong connection to the Berry Hill Silver Band: he briefly played with them as a young man, some of his relatives were members, and he frequently featured them in his television and radio productions.
Potter grew up in Berry Hill and played in the band during his youth. He commissioned the Berry Hill Silver Band to perform in several of his notable screen works, including his first television documentary A Land Between Two Rivers, A Beast with Two Backs, Karaoke, and Cold Lazarus. Radio and books: The band also performed in his BBC radio programme A Christmas Forest and was featured in his book The Changing Forest.
