Dewsbury Minster Tower bellringing Have-A-Go

The event will be a workshop where visitors can have a go.
We will be using the Association of Ringing Teacher's progress chart to introduce you to the being able to handle a large bell.
Visitors will discover how to control 200kgs of bell metal moving at speed.
Visitors will be shown the bells and control mechanism.
A steep uneven spiral stone dusty staircase is the only access. There are 26 steps to the belfry, another 24 to the clock room then 8 steps to the bells.
It takes a long time to ascend and descend.
Visitors will need to be dressed for activity, stable footwear, flexible clothing.
We will meet in The Minster, and after a short briefing, ascend as a group.
We will need to co-ordinated with ongoing activities, so delays are possible.

Visitors can stay for just a few minutes, or the whole hour.
This year there will be just one group, we must finish at 1pm as a group from Hull are coming to ring our bells.

Directions:

The Minster is located on Vicarage Road, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, WF12 8DD. The Main Car Park entrance is to the rear, on the Link Road, opposite BM Store. Parking in the marked spaces is preferred, then on the gravestones on the left over the double yellow lines. Disabled spaces are available. There is also a ‘drop off point’ at The Minster’s main entrance, off the Vicarage Road section of Dewsbury Ring Road. The Minster is fully accessible to the disabled with lift, ramps and disabled toilets.
