’Difficult Buildings’: a walking tour around some of Buxton’s best, but sadly increasingly at risk, architectural gems
Town Hall, Buxton, Derbyshire, SK17 6EL
Buxton Town Team, Buxton Civic Association and Kate Dickson (Director of Creative Heritage Consultants Ltd) are pleased to offer this walking tour of Buxton as part of Heritage Open Days 2025.
Join Kate Dickson as we explore Buxton's townscape on this walking tour around some of Buxton’s best, but sadly increasingly at risk, architectural gems. We will explore the reasons why they may be vacant and some of the challenges and opportunities for bringing them back into use.
Some of these buildings include the Devonshire Dome, the former Buxton Museum & Art Gallery building, the former Buckingham Hotel building and Buxton Town Hall - which may become a 'difficult building'.
Please wear sensible footwear for walking and wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions on the day. The walk will take place across Buxton town where we will walk on public footpaths which may be along busy roads. Participants should have a reasonable level of fitness as some uphill walking may be required during the walk.
Well-behaved dogs on a short lead are welcome to join this walk.
The starting point for the walk will be outside of the Buxton Town Hall, Market Place, Buxton, SK17 6EL
Town Hall, Buxton, Derbyshire, SK17 6EL
The walking route may include hills and steeper gradients. The walk will take place outdoors in all weathers.
