The Church of St Mary's, Pillar Lane, Hardington Bampflyde, Frome, Somerset, BA11 2RE
This peaceful church in a working farmyard has beautiful unspoilt Georgian furnishings and one of the smallest complete church towers in England.
Yet the tranquil atmosphere hides a tragic history: the church and village became almost extinct during the Black Death of 1348.
The Bampfylde family restored the village fortunes in the fifteenth century, and inside the church you can see several Bampfylde memorials - as well as delightful box pews, pulpit and altar rails, also remains of wall paintings and a Royal Arms of Charles I.
Hear the harmonium which will be played over the course of the afternoon and stewards will be on hand to tell you about the church.
Nearby Hemington Church will also be open at the same time to allow visitors to visit both churches in the same afternoon (see separate listing). Walk across the fields or drive to Hemington where there will be stewards on hand, organ playing, bell ringing, and refreshments. You will also have the chance to explore a table showing archaeological finds from the local area.

- A carpark is available on the right hand side as you drive up the lane to the farm. From the carpark walk up the steps to the church. For those with limited mobility you could park on the grass by the church.
