Discover St Nicholas, Brockley

Sitting by its manor house and approached by a yew tree avenue, Brockley is a truly classic example of an English parish church.

Built just after the Norman conquest, the church has been much altered by the wealthy and aristocratic families of neighbouring Brockley Court. Today’s visitors can glimpse many layers of history, spanning centuries of change.

The greatest changes were made in the 19th Century by the Revd. Wadham Pigott, whose family owned much of North Somerset. The Piggott family could ride from here to Weston-super-Mare without ever leaving their own land.

Family trails will be available during the Heritage Open Days to help people discover this beautiful and atmospheric space in a new way. St Nicholas has been in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust since 1898, preserving this special place for all.

Directions:

St Nicholas' Church is located down a quiet lane off the A370, signposted by a brown sign near Brockley Stores. There is some space available to park on grass verges near the church gate - please ensure you do not block the farm track. The church is accessed by a level entrance along a long paved path through the grass churchyard to the south porch and door. There are some internal steps to the altar and Piggott family pew.
