Discover the Anglo-Saxons in Winfarthing
St Mary's Church, Church Lane, Winfarthing, Norfolk, IP22 2EA
The discovery of the Winfarthing Woman - a wealthy European woman buried nearby in the 7th century AD with a rich collection of gold jewellery - is one of the most surprising and significant archaeological finds in the last few decades. It has changed our understanding of South Norfolk in the Anglo-Saxon period, as prior to this discovery, in 2014, there was almost no trace of people living in this area at this time.
Try out our new digital kiosk to find out who the Winfarthing Woman might have been, where she grew up before coming to Winfarthing and what she was wearing when she was buried here. You can also explore the story of the discovery, and what else has been found nearby - she was not alone! Learn more about the Anglo-Saxon landscape, how people lived and worked nearby, what they believed in and who they were.
There will also be artefacts to handle and information about other events being held as part of our Crosses and Coins Project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Tea, coffee and cakes will be available.

This event takes place in and around a historic church. It is all on one level but there are small steps and uneven ground. Please note there are no toilets on site, but the nearby Fighting Cock pub is kindly allowing visitors to use their facilities.
