Dogdyke Steam and Diesel Pumping Station

The engines at the Dogdyke Pumping Station are typical of the many pumping engines that kept the fenland free of water. The unique 1856 steam powered beam engine was built by the Wakefield engineers Bradley and Craven and drives a large wooden scoop wheel pump. Alongside is a Ruston and Hornsby 7XHR single cylinder diesel engine with a Gwynnes centrifugal pump. Both these engines will be at work. These engines are in their original buildings and represent the type of structures once seen across the Fenland countryside. The pump attendants cottage has an exhibition of the men working on the drainage system. Refreshments are also served from the cottage and outside will be a display of old agricultural equipment, bygones, vintage vehicles as well as a tombola, bric-a-brac and produce stalls and children's games.
