Donation of a Legacy: from Pottery Production to Connecting Communities

The Dudson Centre, Hope Street, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, ST1 5DD

  • Multiple dates available
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

Take a step back in time and walk the history of the Dudson legacy, from pottery production to people. Discover centre's rich history and let's go on a journey together through its transformation from disused factory into thriving community.

The bottle kiln is an icon across the Stoke-on-Trent skyline, and there are not many original bottle ovens left to see. But, in the heart of Hanley, nestled inside a picturesque courtyard stands the original Dudson kiln, housing the exquisite Dudson Collection.

Following the Dudson factory's relocation, in 1994 the site was kindly donated to the voluntary sector in Stoke-on-Trent and is now a thriving community resource centre home to many local charities and voluntary organisations, a historic site, and cafe for all to enjoy.

During Heritage Open Days, you'll take a trip back in time with us, and walk through the centre's restoration, the impromptu archaeological digs, and the grand opening by Queen Elizabeth II just five years later. If ever there was a Heritage Open Days festival made for Stoke-on-Trent, it's this one. 2025 is the year of Stoke-on-Trent; a Centenary celebrating 100 years of city status, and the irreplaceable and instantly recognisable Potteries skyline!
