Dove Marine Laboratory is a research facility of the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, Newcastle University. For over 100 years it has accommodated research on the marine environment, student education and community engagement.

Visitors can talk to marine science experts, and students studying marine biology degrees, about their role in the university and life as a scientist. We will have information on our current research, our degrees, and local marine life will be displayed in the aquarium. This Victorian building is full of history, and has been at the heart of the local community for over 100 years.

Directions:
The Dove Marine Lab is within Cullercoats Harbour. There is no parking available in the Harbour, so please do not drive your cars down as it will block access for the RNLI. Parking is available in the public carparks on road above and in immediate surrounding area. It is a short walk from Cullercoats Metro station.

Accessibility details

This Victorian building only has wheelchair access on the ground floor; the reminder of the building has stairs to information displays. Pushchairs must remain outside or in the foyer. Visitor parking is not available in the harbour itself.

Additional information

Unfortunately our toilets will not be open to the public. There are a range of coffee shops and cafes in Cullercoats with facilities. Parking is limited in Cullercoats but there is a small free public car park on Front Street opposite the turn down to the harbour.
