Down Memory Lane with MK Canals: At Wolverton Park Canalside Heritage Event
Lonsdale, Wolverton Park, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK12 5FN
At Wolverton Park, we’ll be near Robert Stevenson’s Grade II listed railway bridge: an architectural feature of Wolverton’s industrial landscape. We’ll focus on the time when rail and canal first crossed locally. When Stevenson wanted to build his new railway from London to Birmingham he had to cross the well-established Grand Junction Canal at Wolverton. History called the rivalry between the two enterprises “the Battle of Wolverton”. We’re seeking specifically Wolverton stories and memories of the canal to help with our planned project on the History of Milton Keynes’ Canals. There’ll be displays of local canal history and restoration works.
12.00-16.30 Canal history and canal restoration display and the chance to share memories of MK Canals with our volunteer MK Canals History Team
12.00-12.30 and 13.00-13.30 Half hour talks on canal history on board MK Community Boat Electra at the mooring (booking online essential, bookings open 01 September)
