Evelyn Suffield House - The home of the Norfolk Federation of WIs: Over 100 years of WI History
Evelyn Suffield House, 45 All Saints Green, Norwich, Norfolk, NR1 3LY
The Norfolk Federation was formed in 1919 and September 2022 was the Platinum Jubilee of the WI's ownership of Evelyn Suffield House. Individual WIs raised the money to buy it as a centre for the Federation, often by running cake stalls! It cost £4,000, so this was no mean feat as rationing was still in place at that time. The property was renamed Evelyn Suffield House, in honour of the Federation's first and only President. The House has had an interesting history, having been successively owned by a musician, carpenter, engineer, solicitor, doctor, and now the WI. It is the hub and administrative centre of the Norfolk Federation, busy with meetings, workshops, clubs and much more taking place every week.
Crafts in all their forms are a large part of the WI's interests and skills, so as well as the exhibition, visitors will also see some of the major craft projects undertaken by members to celebrate milestones in our history - or simply drop in for a cup of tea and famous WI cake! Contact the Office for more information and to book for the Treasure Hunt.
