Totnes Museum will be celebrating the many local authors who've lived and worked in Totnes with an exhibition, readings and other drop in events. Open Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10.30am to 4.00pm during HOD

The Museum is mounting an exhibition of photographs and information focusing on authors over the centuries who have lived and worked in Totnes. Featured authors will include, among others, Edward Lye, Mary Wesley, Christopher Robin Milne, Desmond Bagley and Allen Sadler. There will be a special display about William Brockedon, a 19th century, Totnes born and educated, clockmaker, artist, travel writer and illustrator, and inventor and also a display about the Irish playwright Sean O'Casey who made Totnes his home in the 1930s and 40s.

The Archive which is attached to the Museum will be open on Fridays and will be offering information on "how to start researching your family history".

Special events:
Saturday 12th from 2.00 - 3.30pm local musician and writer Sam Richards will be sharing stories and reminiscences about his father, the writer Allen Saddler.
Tuesday 15th from 11am to 1pm author Alison Huntingford will be meeting visitors;
Tuesday 15th from 1 - 4pm Totnes based poet Harula Ladd will be creating 3 minutes poems using an electric typewriter;
Friday 18th 2.00 - 3.30pm local writer and publisher Bob Mann will be talking about twentieth and twenty first century writers with a Totnes connection.

Impromptu poetry readings will also happen throughout the week.

The Museum is part of Totnes Heritage Festival, taking place on Saturday 19th September: Totnes Heritage Festival

Directions:
Totnes Museum is in the centre of Totnes in Fore Street. It is about half a mile from the train station (10 - 12 minutes' level walk) and 5 minutes' walk up the hill from the bus stops on The Plains. The Community Transport Bob The Bus circular route passes the Museum regularly.

Accessibility details

Totnes Museum is in a Grade 1 listed building which is 450 years old. There are narrow entrances, and uneven floors in places. The museum is arranged over three floors and access to the upper floors is via stairs. There are no lifts. Two downstairs galleries are wheelchair accessible. There is an inner courtyard which is cobbled. Access for wheelchairs is challenging, but possible. The rear courtyard garden has steps. There is no parking on site, but there are car parks nearby. There is limited disabled on street parking outside the Museum.

The Museum is in the centre of Totnes - a busy and historic town with a vibrant array of independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. There are town centre carparks which are signposted and also parking at the supermarket (2 hours free).
