Everyday Histories at Sheffield General Cemetery
The Samuel Worth Chapel,, Sheffield General Cemetery, Cemetery Avenue, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S11 8NT
The 2026 festival theme, Everyday Histories, celebrates the ordinary lives, places and moments that shape our shared past. It highlights the stories found in homes, workplaces, streets, traditions and communities - the histories we all live with, often without realising their significance.
Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy an outdoor exhibition exploring the lives of some of the people buried in the cemetery. From 10.00am, the Samuel Worth Chapel will also be open, hosting an indoor exhibition showcasing the roles of grave diggers, sextons, stonemasons and chaplains, as well as more recent stories of local residents and volunteers. Join one of two free guided tours, take part in children's craft activities and explore the cemetery's everyday history - all for FREE in the peaceful surroundings of this Grade II* listed Victorian garden cemetery.
