Have you ever wondered what life was like in a back-to-back house in the early twentieth century? This podcast reveals the lives and memories of residents and former residents in their own words.

This podcast provides a detailed account of the ‘everyday’ social history of the Harehills neighbourhood by a narrator and includes excerpts from audio recorded interviews with former and current residents (recorded 2019-2022). In these excerpts, the interviewees recall life from 1910 to 1950, and they discuss their daily lives and those of relatives, touching on the architecture and interiors, work, cleaning, leisure time, family and neighbour relationships. The voices and the detail they provide bring to life Harehills of the past in a way you won't find in history books.

This event is partially funded by Leeds Civic Trust.
