Step inside one of Blackburn’s most historic landmarks as The Exchange opens its doors for Heritage Open Days. Recently reopened after a £1.5m restoration of its Victorian tower, the building now reveals beautifully restored stone tracery, striking stained‑glass windows, and a new fully accessible entrance that brings this 19th‑century gem back to life.
Built in 1865 as a cotton exchange, The Exchange later became a celebrated performance hall, welcoming travelling artists — including Charles Dickens — before transforming into a cinema in the 1920s, the era many local people still remember fondly.
During Heritage Open Days, visitors can explore the building through guided tours, learn about its rich past, and see the impressive renovation work up close. Our café will be open throughout the event, serving drinks and cakes for anyone who wants to relax and take in the surroundings.
