Exhibition and Talk - From Union Poorhouse to Union Leader - the story of Herbert Smith

Born in Great Preston Union Poorhouse and buried in Castleford Cemetery, Herbert came to live in Castleford at a young age and went on to lead the miners regionally and nationally during turbulent times. Find out about the role Herbert Smith played in the civic life of Castleford and the issues that were closest to his heart. Castleford Civic Society has been on a journey remembering one of the town's forgotten sons. This May the Society rededicated Herbert's grave with members of his family present. Come along to the library and listen to the talk on the 17th September at 11 am and also visit the Herbert Smith exhibition which will run for the period of the Heritage Open Day Festival at the library.
