Shipyard Trail - launch is on Saturday 19th
Along the east bank of the River Torridge the South West Coast Path between Appledore and Bideford passes the sites of historic and active ship yards. Locally known as the ship yard path this was used by workers on their way to and from work in the yards. The self guided walk takes about 1.5 – 2 hours and there are more details on accompanying website. If you can't do the walk then call in and see more at this exhibition.
The 'Young Shipwrights' project involving local primary schools is a partnership between Steamship Freshspring and Navantia Appledore. See one of the model boats and how a charity and shipyard came together with young to build and race them across the paddling pool
The restoration of Jane Hannah MacDonald III, the last rowed lifeboat based at Appledore 1910-1922, is taking place in Bideford. The workshop is open for visits on Tuesday 15th - see separate entry for details. But if you can't make that this is a chance to find out about progress and buy a copy of the new book about this historic lifeboat.
