St Paul's Church, Alverthorpe sits on top of a hill just outside Wakefield City Centre. Along with the Cathedral it's one of the most visible landmarks in Wakefield. For this heritage open day you can climb a steep and narrow spiral staircase to get to the carillon bells which you can ring. Weather permitting there is then a vertical ladder to climb to get to the top of the tower itself. It therefore requires a significant level of fitness to get to the top. Please consider your fitness before deciding to attempt it.

There will be refreshments and crafts available for people to participate in and opportunities to explore the history of this church which has hosted worship for over 200 years
