Why was St Mary’s church shot by muskets and canon in the English Civil War? Presenting a workshop on understanding the role of the church during the English Civil War and learning how to spot and collect evidence for a musket scar.

Discover the truth behind the stories and learn how to recognise musket impact scars, how these are assessed and the differences between the shot marks and natural processes that produce similar marks. Accessibility details

The event will start at Nantwich Museum with a short talk and workshop, then the group will walk out to St Mary's Church to have a go at finding, understanding and measuring the bullet scars. Although the area is relatively flat, the route to the church is via a cobbled road and the area around the church itself is uneven in places. While the museum is fully accessible, there are areas outside which are more difficult for wheelchair users, please phone for advice.
