Come and explore the University of Surrey's Archives and Special Collections and find out what we have, what we do and how we do it. The event includes the opportunity to visit our stores and take part in a conservation session.

The University of Surrey holds the University Archives, spanning our predecessor institution Battersea Polytechnic (founded in 1891) to the present day, as we celebrate the University’s 60th Anniversary this September.

Our other notable collections include the archives of E. H. Shepard, illustrator of 'Winnie-the-Pooh' and 'The Wind in the Willows', and the archive of Rudolf Laban, a prominent movement and dance theorist, along with over 100 archives relating to dance. We also hold special collections, such as a Victorian statesman's personal library.

We'll explore these collections using some of our favourite items to tell you more about what we do, then go behind the scenes into the store to show how we care for these precious items. You can also get hands on with a conservation session, cleaning some of our early 20th century Battersea student registration cards, discovering more about these fascinating records and how they can help with family and social history research.
