Flint Man Walk
The Barbican, Castle Precincts, High Street, Lewes, East Sussex, BN7 1YB
A guided tour by 'The Flint Man', David Smith, showing how flint has been used as a building material over the centuries, including the Norman castle and defensive walls, to churches, grand houses, but also domestic houses. The different types of flint used will be identified together with the structure and techniques employed in a variety of buildings across different centuries.

Accessibility details
Some steep, uneven surfaces on the walk, which will include public footways adjacent to busy highways. The walk will take between one hour and one and a half hours. Appropriate clothing, depending on the prevailing weather at the time. Bus stops serving the 28 and 29 bus routes (serving Brighton, Heathfield, Uckfield, Tunbridge Wells, Eastbourne, Crowborough and Hailsham are located close by in the High Street.
