Following in the footsteps of Charles Barry

Trentham Parish Church, Park Drive, Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, ST4 8AB

  • 13 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

A guided walk to discover traces of Charles Barry's legacy in Trentham.

This walk, led by local historian Rose Wheat, will start on the footprint of Trentham Hall that was demolished over 100 years ago. Built by the renowned and celebrated architect Charles Barry, for the hugely wealthy 2nd Duke and Duchess of Sutherland from 1833-1842, it was remodelled from a country mansion to an Italianate ducal palace, as befitted one of the wealthiest families in the country. The walk will take in other buildings on the Trentham estate, which Barry also designed and are still standing, although in various states of repair.
