For Heritage Open Days, the museum is providing free access to a temporary exhibition, 'Football & War - the role of the 'Beautiful Game' in the Army'. This exhibition explores different aspects of the role of football in the army and also the teams created by female workforce of the ammunition factories and prisoners-of-war during WW1 and WW2. It will include stories of professional players from clubs like Aston Villa FC who fought in the war or joined the army as part of National Service and look at how a local football team was formed in WW2 for soldiers on leave. It will also draw on the diaries of WW1 soldiers who played near the frontline trenches on the Western Front and official matches that took place during the liberation of Normandy after the D Day landings. The exhibition will also look at the role football plays in the modern army. The exhibition will display original football cups, football paraphernalia and photos. There will also be related activities for families during the week including a competition to win prizes.

The museum is on the first floor of Pageant House. For wheelchair users and others with mobility issues, the museum does have a stair lift.
