Free tour of a temporary exhibition, 'Football & War - the role of the 'Beautiful Game' in the Army' which explores the role over the last 100 years that football has played in supporting morale & identity in the army and ammunition factories.

For Heritage Open Days, the museum is providing free access to a temporary exhibition, 'Football & War - the role of the 'Beautiful Game' in the Army'. This exhibition explores different aspects of the role of football in the army and also the teams created by female workforce of the ammunition factories and prisoners-of-war during WW1 and WW2. It will include stories of professional players from clubs like Aston Villa FC who fought in the war or joined the army as part of National Service and look at how a local football team was formed in WW2 for soldiers on leave. It will also draw on the diaries of WW1 soldiers who played near the frontline trenches on the Western Front and official matches that took place during the liberation of Normandy after the D Day landings. The exhibition will also look at the role football plays in the modern army. The exhibition will display original football cups, football paraphernalia and photos. There will also be related activities for families during the week including a competition to win prizes.

The exhibition is accessible for wheelchairs. There are toilets, including accessible toilet and baby changing facilities available in the building. Access to the temporary exhibition is free for Heritage Open Days, but those who would like also to visit the main museum, adult tickets are £5 and concession tickets are £4 (over 65, serving military & veterans, and students).
