Fort Gomer - Talk and Walk
The Alverbank Hotel, Stokes Bay Road, Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 2QT
Fort Gomer is the southernmost fort of the "Elson Gomer Line" a line of fortifications built to prevent an enemy approaching Portsmouth Harbour and Dockyards from the west. The fort was demolished in the 1970s, but traces of it remain in the alignment of streets and houses that were built on it.
The fort has also been recreated virtually in 3D by a Palmerston Forts Society member.
After the talk, we will take a walk around the Gomer estate area and see how evidence of the fort remains.
