Fort Widley is a Palmerston Fort built in 1869 - but it's also a working Fort.
Home to the Peter Ashley Activity Centres for the Equestrian Centre, community events, rental and more!
This iconic landmark was part of Palmerston's defenses initiated in anticipation of a war with France.
Join our guided tour through areas of the Fort to witness the amazing architecture and heritage.
There will be areas of uneven surfaces, inclines and steps.
(This 'taster tour' will not include the Cold War Bunker)

The Fort is a Historical Scheduled Monument and Grade 2 Listed Building which is protected under law. Its design and age dictate that there are areas of uneven floor, steps and ramps, and dimly lit areas. Please consider this carefully if you are of limited mobility. This site is monitored by CCTV to protect our legitimate interests in keeping the site safe. Our full privacy notice is available from reception, or from our website. Under 18's to be accompanied by a participating adult.

This event must be pre- booked through Eventbrite • Fort Widley is on Portsdown Hill near the Churchillian Pub. • it may be sunny but the tunnels can get chilly! • sturdy footwear please - not sandals or crocs • a torch is handy to have to see details • have your ticket QR code handy ready to scan - either a paper copy or on your phone. • limited parking available outside the front of the Fort • no dogs please • this is a working equestrian centre - there is livestock on site.
