Foxton Locks & Incline Plane Tours at Foxton Canal Museum

In 1900 a replacement boat lift was opened in the middle of Foxton Locks, engineered by Gordon Cale Thomas; this was the only transverse incline plane in Britain and cut the travel time from nearly an hour on the locks to 12 mins. Find out about the history of the site and the development from a farmer's field to a hive of industrial transportation. The tour starts at Foxton Canal Museum and will take about 40 mins. From the A6 turn into Foxton village and follow signs for Foxton Locks past the church. From Lutterworth or Market Harborough, turn in the village of Lubbenham and follow signs for Foxton Locks
