In 1900 a replacement boat lift was opened in the middle of Foxton Locks, engineered by Gordon Cale Thomas; this was the only transverse incline plane in Britain and cut the travel time from nearly an hour on the locks to 12 mins. Find out about the history of the site and the development from a farmer's field to a hive of industrial transportation. The tour starts at Foxton Canal Museum and will take about 40 mins.
