The Shorncliffe Trust "pop up" exhibit will be telling the remarkable story of how the Canadian Army in WW1 prepared for the legendary Battle of Vimy Ridge at Shorncliffe using photos and rare unseen artefacts.

This exhibit of unseen photos, memorabilia and artefacts show the visitor how the myth about the tactics in WW1 was not true.

Shorncliffe military camp made famous under the legendary General Sir John Moore during the Napoleonic Wars came back to prominence in 1915 with the arrival of the Canadian Army who made the district their base of operations and their home.

The dedication of training and instruction across the camp, training trenches and classrooms meant the Canadian soldiers were as prepared as possible.

Finally when it was all over - what was left behind was a few trenches, 305 headstones and a "promise" from the local people that they would never forget the Soldiers sacrifice for the Maple Leaf.

This exhibit tells their story.
