From Prison to Pillar of the Community - Kirton in LIndsey Diamond Jubilee Town Hall

How a former prison/House of Correction became a pillar of the local community. Guided walk with visit/tour of the Grade 2 listed Town Hall. Architecturally similar but also so different!

Visitors will start outside the Town Hall and be taken on a guided walk to see The Priory, which is the remaining part of Kirton in Lindsey's House of Correction. Also passing the Old Police Station and Whipping Post. Returning to the Town Hall for a a guided tour of the building and its special features. These include recently restored and displayed original doors from the prison; visiting the Heritage Room to view the displays. There will be further displays of old photographs and information about the extensive renovation and improvements carried out to the hall, which was re-opened in 2010 by Prince Edward, the then Duke of Wessex. Light Refreshments amd Toilets will be available.
