From Vinyl to Digital: The Evolution of Milton Keynes Hospital Radio
Milton Keynes University Hospital, Standing Way, Eaglestone, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK6 5LD
Milton Keynes Hospital Radio is opening its doors for a rare behind-the-scenes look at a station that has been part of the hospital community for more than forty years. Usually closed to the public, our studio’s will be accessible exclusively for Heritage Open Days, offering visitors an insight into a broadcasting world normally heard but not seen.
Throughout the day, our volunteer team, who run every aspect of the station, will guide visitors through the space where programmes are created, music is selected, and patient requests come to life. Visitors will learn how the station began, how it has adapted to changing technology, and how a dedicated group of volunteers continue to keep it running.
As visitors explore the studios, they’ll see the equipment we use, discover how shows are planned and produced, and hear stories from decades of broadcasting within the hospital. Our volunteers will share their experiences of presenting, producing, and supporting the station, highlighting the passion and teamwork that keep Milton Keynes Hospital Radio on air 24/7.
Visitors will also have the chance to step up to the mic and try presenting for themselves, guided by experienced members of the team. Whether visitors are curious about radio, fascinated by local history, or simply looking for something different, this event offers an engaging look at part of the Milton Keynes community usually hidden from view.

Our studio space is small. If you’re coming in a wheelchair or have limited mobility, please let us know in advance so we can plan and have the right access in place for you (we may need to reduce the tour size to ensure there’s enough space in the studio for you to move around safely and with ease). Our studios are a fair distance from the main entrance of the hospital (approx. 200 meters). Access is fully step free.
