Claire Baily, a clay researcher with the British Ceramics Biennial, presents her ongoing research into the creative reuse of construction spoil clay—an abundant byproduct that is typically sent to landfill.

Her work highlights the potential of this overlooked material to be transformed into a valuable resource through innovative and sustainable practices. The project investigates how artists, makers, and industry can adopt circular economy approaches to unlock environmental, social, and economic benefits. By examining both current and emerging uses of spoil clay, the research highlights the importance of cross-sector collaboration in reimagining waste and inspiring long-term, systemic change. The event is scheduled alongside the "Power in The Potteries: Energy Exhibition" at Etruria Industrial Museum and is part of the City of Stoke-on-Trent's centenary celebrations.
