For centuries, the River Tweed has shaped the lives of those who work upon it. Along its banks and tidal reaches, salmon fishers have developed a deep understanding of the river’s moods, seasons, and rhythms.
Rather than focusing solely on the catch, these images captured by Jordan Hodgson explore the team behind the practice: their routines, relationships, and knowledge of the river. Together, they tell a story of labour, tradition, and identity within a landscape that continues to shape them both.
As pressures on traditional fishing communities continue to grow, these photographs stand as a record of a way of life that remains deeply woven into the cultural fabric of Berwick-upon-Tweed.
The exhibition at the newly restored Old Brewery Artists' Studios, offers visitors the opportunity to experience this body of work within a building that reflects Berwick’s own rich heritage. Through these photographs, audiences are invited to consider the enduring relationship between people, place, and tradition, and the communities whose lives continue to be shaped by the River Tweed.
