  • Multiple dates available
  • | In person
  • | Pre-booking required
  • | Walk / Tour

Garendon is a Registered Historic Park which, at one time, straddled what is now the M1. Information will be shared about the Park’s history including the 12th Century Monastery, Palladian Hall, Parkland, 18th Century Follies and Wartime use.

Garendon was one of Leicestershire's grandest Halls. Although the Hall was demolished in 1964, much history abounds. Hosted by the 'Friends of Garendon Park' find out about the former Monastery, the Hall and the people who lived here, both upstairs and down. Do this on a pre-booked guided walk, or explore the parkland on your own.

Over 2 weekends available options are:-

- Pre-book a guided walk to areas not normally open to the public. This includes the site of the former Monastery, the former gardens and a large lake. Available on Sat 12th Sept 2pm.

- Pre-book a 3.5 mile guided circular walk across the Park. See the location of the former Hall, attractive farmland and three 18th Century follies. Plus ancient trees and plentiful wildlife. Hear about key family members. Available on Sat 19th Sept, 10.30am and Sun 20th Sept 10.30am.

- In your own time do a self-guided walk to explore the Park. See ancient trees and look out for the follies. Walk leaflets available from St Botolph's church, Shepshed or by download from https://sites.google.com/view/garendon/activities/heritage/walks

To see the impressive family memorials, visit St Botolph's church, Shepshed. Here there is a display about Garendon. Learn about the Hall, Park and Phillips family. Details on the separate Garendon Park and St Botolph's Heritage Open day entry.
