Gedling House - Explore the History of Gedling House and Kadampa Buddhism
Gedling House, Wood Lane, Gedling, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, NG4 4AD
Gedling House was built in 1790 as the home of Nottingham banker Thomas Smith. Over the next 230+ years it was home to many significant Nottingham families, the war office, the museum service, wedding venue, offices and today it is the home of Kadampa Meditation Centre Nottingham.
We welcome our local community – on our open day you can learn about the history of the house and occupants (including details of the servants' lives), attend a talk by local historian Mo Cooper, try taster meditation sessions and enjoy refreshments in our grand dining room or gardens - we’ll also have activities for children.
We will also tell the story of the origins and growth of Kadampa Buddhism in the UK and beyond.
Volunteers will be available for one-on-one conversations to offer deeper insights into Gedling Houses history and Kadampa Buddhist practices. Come and enjoy the serenity of Gedling house with its tranquil garden and peaceful meditation room with a beautiful shrine.
Access to ground floor and grounds only.
