A tour of a Grade II* Listed building, General Lambert's House. Hear some of the stories associated with the Dickson, Archer and Thorp practice, explore the building in its current condition, and view the plans to bring it back to life.

John Lambert was a prominent solicitor and a generous philanthropist. He bought two small houses in 1811, then extended, modernised and refaced them to create a stylish home for his large family and thriving legal practice. On his death the house passed to his son, then in 1861 it was sold to William Dickson, a founding partner of the Law firm which became Dickson, Archer & Thorp. They occupied the building until the practice closed in 2003. It has remained empty since, but more than two centuries of alterations have left traces of the original 17th century buildings, and an ancient kitchen range in the cellar; elaborate fireplaces, domestic fittings and dangerous wallpaper on the first and second floors; and more basic accommodation for servants in the attics. For more than 150 years this was the main business premises of Dickson, Archer and Thorp, and many in Alnwick have memories of the practice, as members of staff or clients. This is a unique opportunity to hear their stories, explore the principal rooms in one of Alnwick’s most prominent buildings, and view the plans to bring the property back to life.
