Come along to our event during Heritage Open Days and discover the fascinating story St Helens born George Groves from his earliest days in Duke St to his eventual rise to the Head of Sound at Warner Brothers in Burbank California. How he helped bring sound to big screen in the 1920’s and went on to become an Oscar winner, working with some of the biggest names in Hollywood and got the nickname ‘The Quiet Little Englishman’.

Learn about the History of cinemas in St Helens from the early 1900’s to the closure of the Cannon Cinema in 1993. Featuring the reminiscences of local people who both worked and visited the towns picture house. From the Parr Dog and the Rivoli to the Palladium and Sutton Bug and what made them so special.
We are a volunteer led Community Cinema. If you haven’t visited Lucem House before, come and have a look at the building and speak to staff and learn about who we are what we do. We look forward to seeing you.
