A walk along the lanes and paths of Godley Green to discover the heritage and sense of place of this small community.

This is a circular walk to explore the heritage of the local area, including: the people who have lived, worked and played here; the history of local organisation, ownership and community issues; the infrastructure such as roads, railway, reservoir and industry that shaped the area; the local lore of an area described as having more boggarts than anywhere else in the kingdom; and understanding past and current environments through which we will walk. Find out the connections to Danish margarine, Mississippi folk tunes, giant yellow dogs, and Dad's Army. The walk will take about 2 to 2.5 hours, with many stops along the way.

Accessibility details

This is an open air walk on public footpaths and unadopted lanes. The surfaces are very uneven in places and parts of the route are narrow and shared with horses and bikes. Depending on the weather some parts of the route can also be very wet, and so appropriate footwear such as stout walking boots or Wellington boots are advised, and suitable clothing should be worn for the forecast weather. We are sorry that there are no toilets available on route, and both shelter and accessibility is limited.
