  • 20 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

A story of love, community and the importance of symbols and patterns in the African cultural heritage. A grandmother shares the meaning of the ancient symbols of the land with her grandchildren to help them remember them and not forget.

Using symbolic textiles, body markings, and pattern-making techniques, the storyteller brings to life tales of wisdom, community, resilience, and connection to the natural world. Each symbol holds a deeper meaning – an ancestral voice passed down through generations-inviting the audience to decode, reflect, and reconnect with the rich cultural heritage of the African continent.

This immersive experience highlights storytelling as a living tradition, preserving collective memory and inspiring new narratives through a fusion of the old and the new.

During the performance, a grandmother's necklace goes missing, leading to a twist that is followed by a wedding in a captivating journey into the heart of African oral traditions, where stories are told not just with words, but through ancient symbols and intricate patterns. It weaves together folklore, dance, music and visual art to explore the ways our ancestors communicated values, history and identity without written texts.

Using symbolic textiles, body markings, and pattern-making techniques, the storyteller brings to life tales of wisdom, community, resilience, and connection to the natural world.
